Cartographic Briefing

70 Playable Civilizations Across Six Historical Epochs

Humankind 2 expands its base-game roster to 70 playable cultures distributed across 6 historical eras — 10 more civilizations at launch than the original Humankind. Rather than treating cultures as disposable stat packages that vanish every era, each civilization now features a dedicated 5-node Cultural Progression Tree of Customs that culminates in a permanent Legacy Trait.

In our Cultures archive, we document every confirmed civilization from the October 2026 walkthrough — including the Ancient Egyptians (with their Nile Flood Tamer First Tale, River Transport, Hieroglyphics, and Priestly Class customs), the Classical Romans, Carthaginians, and Persians, the Medieval Abbasids, Byzantines, and Aztecs, and the Arctic-adapted Thule People of Greenland.

Humankind 2 Playable Cultures FAQ

Humankind 2 includes 70 playable cultures across 6 historical eras in the base game, surpassing the 60 launch cultures of the original Humankind.
Confirmed civilizations include the Ancient Egyptians, Romans, Carthaginians, Persians, Abbasids, Byzantines, Aztecs, and the Thule People of Greenland, alongside era-transition links shown in the Crossroads interface.
Yes. At every Era Crossroads, you can choose to keep your current civilization — such as taking Ancient Egypt from the Ancient Era into later epochs — while unlocking deeper scaling rewards.
Each culture has a 5-node Cultural Progression Tree made up of Customs (unique civic, economic, or military passives and emblematic units/quarters). Completing the tree unlocks that civilization permanent Legacy Trait.
To pivot to a new culture at the Era Crossroads, you must fulfill at least one of three organic historical prerequisites: Common History (lineage), Shared Land (geographic territory), or Foreign Contact (diplomatic/trade interaction).
